*|FNAME|*,

It's only a month away! The Summer NABC in Providence is much more than A BIG DEAL. The future of face-to-face bridge is on the line. Bridge players from around the world are counting on New England's players to put on an event that will convince people that bridge is best when played with real cards on real tables and with human opponents on either side.

The groundwork for just such an event has already been laid, but there is still much work to be done. The people who have been working for several years to prepare for it need help to pull it off—a little bit of help from a lot of people like you over a period of eleven days. We are asking you to volunteer a bit of your time.

We need two sets of volunteers. The first set will work two-hour shifts. Here are the details:

    f
  • When? Any day of the tournament (July 14-24) before and after the games that start at 10 and 3.
  • No experience necessary.
  • Volunteers can play bridge even on the days of their shifts.
  • Rewards: 1) A certificate good for $5 off of an entry fee; 2) The thanks of the worldwide bridge community; 3) The knowledge that you played an important role of a significant event in the history of bridge.

The second set will help in the Youth Bridge area. Volunteers will provide support for young players right at the table. The shifts will be half-day or the entire day.

  • When? Any day of the youth tournament (July 21-23).
  • A little patience necessary.
  • Volunteers will NOT have time to play bridge on the days of their shifts.
  • Rewards: 1) A certificate good for $5 off of an entry fee; 2) The thanks of the worldwide bridge community; 3) The satisfaction of knowing that you have helped a new generation of bridge players appreciate the game.

Can you help? To get started aim your browser at ProvNABC.org. Then click on the blue button on the left that says "Volunteers". Or you can just click here.

About ten days before the tournament begins a schedule will be sent to all volunteers. On the day(s) of your shifts check in at the Volunteers/Information Desk on the third floor of the Rhode Island Island Convention Center near the bridge from the Parking Lot.

We'll all have a great time in Providence. Those who volunteer will have something more.
